Colour trend for autumn/winter 2024/25

The key colours for autumn/winter 2024/25 are: Celestial Yellow, Cherry Lacquer, Retro Blue, Neon Flare and Future Dusk.

Each of the shades was chosen to convey a sense of security in a time of great uncertainty and global change, while reflecting a "shift towards strategic imagination", according to the trend researchers.

FashionUnited has compiled some looks from current catwalk collections in the colours selected by WGSN and Coloro that can serve as inspiration

Celestial Yellow / 048-90-17

The bright, pale yellow shade "Celestial Yellow" is described by the trend researchers as "a radiant, multi-sensory colour that is both relaxing and surreal".

The trend colour yellow evokes associations with natural celestial bodies such as the moon, the stars and the sun and symbolises the human search for reassurance, orientation and a sense of belonging," write WGSN and Coloro. "In times of uncertainty, people turn to spiritual and cosmic considerations such as spirituality, astrology and astronomy to find meaning and direction."

Cherry Lacquer / 159-23-15

Like Future Dusk, Cherry Lacquer is the colour of the year 2025 - a dark, mysterious colour with a luxurious radiance, according to the colour institutes. While Future Dusk lies in the spectrum between blue and violet, this is a mixture of black and red. It is best described as a deep red colour, somewhere between Bordeaux and cherry red.

According to the institutes, Cherry Lacquer matches the feelings of anger and insecurity that many people are currently experiencing. The colour symbolises resistance and rebellion, which means that it is associated with the desire to break existing rules and expectations.

At the same time, there is something seductive about this deep red colour, something that attracts people and appeals to their deepest desires and forbidden pleasures. This means that it can convey a sense of intoxicating escape and empowerment.

Retro Blue / 100-64-14

Retro Blue conveys a feeling of warmth and joy. The "analogue" colour is reminiscent of the past. The idea behind it is that in times of uncertainty, people often find comfort and security in things that are familiar to them and give them a sense of stability and security. Retro Blue therefore plays on nostalgia. According to WGSN and Coloro, the colour could have a special appeal to Generation Z.

Neon Flare / 014-68-51

This intense, bright neon colour is linked to the zeitgeist of increasing concern about climate change and its impact on the planet, according to WGSN and Coloro. "This artificial intelligence (AI)-based colour has a stimulating and activating effect, fuelling a sense of collective urgency to find solutions to complex problems."

Future Dusk- 129-35-18

WGSN and Coloro believe that this will be the time of renewal and change, where there are opportunities to find new solutions to the world's "economic and environmental" problems. "Future Dusk represents the combination of darkness and hope, suggesting that despite the challenges ahead, there is always room for imagination and optimism for the future." The blue-violet colour also has a celestial and futuristic character, according to the institutes.
